Fren-Z
NOTE: The WebGL build is a little broken, as the cutscenes are not functioning correctly and the player character cannot die. We recommend downloading our latest build, 1.02, for a better experience.
Fren-Z is a top down action hack-and-slash game created by the Grain Farmers for the course IAT410 at Simon Fraser University in Fall 2024
The game features 3 levels, 3 boss fights, and a heart pounding soundtrack by Studio Phrog.
Players will be thrown into the shoes of the unnamed Subject Z, a discarded test subject from the shady AUG-Corp, who is out for revenge. Rip through enemies on your quest for revenge using a controller or mouse and keyboard.
The game highlights the mechanic of Frenzy, which players must master to overcome the levels. Frenzy occurs whenever the player takes damage, creating a ticking time bomb for the player's demise. The blood of your enemies will offset this timer, allowing you to slip out of frenzy if the meter is filled enough above the threshold. This causes the players to strategize on the fly about if they are to melee in frenzy mode, engaging many enemies, or using their pistol in their regular form.
